The Hydrangea ‘Vanille Fraise’ belongs to the plume-shaped Hortensia family. It is called Vanille Fraise, standing for vanilla ice with strawberries, since the flowers are white first but later fade to strawberry pink. Perfect for adding late summer colour to the shrub border, or for creating an informal, flowering hedge. Its red stems make the plant even prettier. Hydrangea paniculata ‘Vanille Fraise’ is easy to grow and perfect for those problematic north-facing areas, due to its extreme hardiness – down to -20C!

Care
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced.
Hydrangea paniculata Vanille Fraise is a deciduous garden plant. The Hydrangea flowers from June till September. It is easy to take care of since it prefers to stand in both sun and shadow. Prune the Hortensia every year back to 20-30 cm above the ground. The plant could grow up to 150 cm during the summer. All parts of hydrangea will upset the stomach if eaten, also for animals.
